INdoor OUTdoor Design Contest

"INdoor/OUTdoor contest" is the first competition of ideas on Corian®, promoted by Modula Ltd in collaboration with UNICAM (University of Camerino), to design new furniture that could be used both as outdoor and as indoor décor, which enhance the technical features Corian® DuPont™. The competition is intended for all creative people who will compete into the categories students and professionals.

1. Aim of competition

Modula Ltd is looking for brilliant projects that interpret the Corian® Dupont™ by designing outdoor or, at the same time, outdoor/indoor furnishing, which enhance the technical and aesthetic qualities of the material.

2. Criteria for participation

Participation to the competition is free and open to all creative people of all nationalities who will compete in two distinct sections: students and professionals.
Group participation is allowed; in this special case, the members of the group must designate a leader and he/she will be responsible to the organisers of the competition, as well as the only person entitled to collect possible awards. The group may be composed of a maximum of five participants (group leader included). In the registration the name and nationality of group leader is compulsory.
In any case each participant, individual or group, may submit only one project, failure to comply will result in exclusion from the competition. The same candidate is not allowed to participate both as an individual and as member of a group.

3. Raw materials and components

Other materials (wood, steel, glass, ...) can be used, both as complementary to the Corian®, and as inner structural components (not visible). In both solutions, however, Corian® must remain the main material of the project.

4. Term of participation

The application for the contest takes place simultaneously with the delivery of the project. The model of the drawing is available at
When the registration and the upload of the drawings are completed a confirmation e-mail is delivered, with the participation code that must be conserved.
Each participant or team will have to upload the following documents only in .pdf format (maximum 12 MB overall):

  • a brief written description (max 3000 types) that describes the aim, the general concept, design features and thedescription of the materials used. The file of the report must be in .Pdf format ISO-A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) vertically oriented;
  • copy od ID or passport of single participant or group leader;
  • graphic arts consisting of nr. 4 drawings ISO-A3 horizontal (29.7 x 42cm) .pdf format:
    Draw. 1: a representative image, a render, a photomontage, or another image that is representative of the project;
    Draw. 2: an overview, perspective and methods of use, mood board, general concept of the object;
    Draw. 3: technical drawings: plans, elevations, sections, isometric views and details and technical components;
    Draw. 4: object representation, rendering, photo of model.

The name of the designer or the group should not appear on none of the four drawings required. The drawings must be anonymous and only report the number of draw and the name of the project.
Projects submitted via alternative system will not be accepted.

5. Examining commission

The examining commission will be proclaimed before the deadline for delivery of the projects and made up as follows:

  • a representative of Modula Ltd
  • a Professor from "UNICAM SAD Eduardo Vittoria"
  • an architect
  • a designer
  • a personality in the world of design
6. Evaluation criteria

The selection and evaluation of projects will take account of their originality, degree of innovation and research for new design solutions related to processing of Corian®, the ability of projects to define and anticipate areas of application and innovative concepts for both outdoor and indoor furnishing.

7. Calendar and deadline

25th January 2016 – Publication of announcement.
4th March 2016 – Deadline for information requests at
20th June 2016 – (Within 12:00 pm) Deadline of application and project upload.
27th June 2016 – Start of Commission’s evaluation.
25th July 2016 – Publication of competition results.
30th September 2016 – Presentation of prototypes of awarded projects8.

8. Selected projects and prizes

The evaluation Committee, at its own discretion, will award one project and assign up to three special mentions for each category (e.g professionals and students).
The company Modula Ltd. reserves the right to implement the prototypes of selected projects in the competition and lastly to produce them.
The outcome of competition will be available in the page of the contest
The Company will present the initiative to specialized press of the industry and will communicate the results of the competition in an dedicated award ceremony, about which further details will be provided.

9. Rights of use

Participants to the contest retain the ownership and the right to exploit their works. The company Modula Ltd. reserves the right to define together with the authors of the winning project or of those worthy of mention a contract for the industrial exploitation of their works. Participants grant Modula Ltd. the right to exploit their work for one year from the publication of competition results. Within this period the Company will evaluate whether to start production and, in this special case, the economic terms will be regulated by a contract. Further the Company is committed not to modify in any way the presented projects without the designer's consent. The company Modula Ltd. reserves the right to exploit for one year not awarded projects as well, upon payment of royalties to be agreed between the parties.
